The volunteers in this country are the real American heroes. Volunteers are the most under-rated role models of our time. They make such an impact on people's lives everyday and it goes unnoticed by so many people. .
A particular group of volunteers I"d like to touch on first are the aids and helpers of the handicapped, both mentally and physically. These people give up their personal lives to help make others more normal. This includes the drivers of the Disabled Veterans of America vans that give up their time to transport those that can't transport themselves. Also the aids that work with the mentally retarded to help them live their lives normally are heroes.
Another group of heroes is the volunteer fire departments. These people give up their right to a private life in order to be on call to save lives. They go from having dinner with their family to saving someone's house, belongings, and livelihood or in other words: Clark Kent to Superman, in fifteen minutes. Without these people so many would have lost everything. .
The last group of heroes I"ll mention is volunteers that enlist and have served in United States military. Those that have served our country proud have done just exactly that. Without theses volunteers we would have none of the freedoms we enjoy today. They've fought to keep America free, and I for one appreciate it.
Volunteers give without any thought of reward. This selflessness has made a difference in lives. From the aids and helpers of the handicapped, to those who have saved lives by fighting fires, and finally to those who have served proudly in the United States Military, volunteers give character to a society that otherwise would be greedy and selfish. Volunteerism proves to the rest of the world that Americans still have morals and a conscience. .
