What is a hero and how should we treat them?.
One could find many different heros for many different nations or for many individuals. People can become heros through many different actions.
A good example of current interest is presumable Italys` hero who was being killed by terrorists several days ago. This person was innocent, but he had to die. The importance is that he died for his country. Italians are able to identify themselves with this hero because destiny could have chosen any other Italian istead of him. So that is what makes him a hero, but how do people treat their heros? First of all these people honor their heros, they show them their respect with several actions. The most important act is to try to help one owns` hero the best way one can do. .
This is the very ideal way to celebrate a hero. But what happens if a hero does not get treated the right way? A good example of such a tragic hero shows the story "Business is Business" written by Arthur Miller.
This story is about a salesman who spent his whole life traveling for one company. At the time he is getting old and tired of the job. As a result he asks his young boss for an office job because he still has to earn money.
After having struggled so many years for a company and after having helped the company to gain much success, one could just expect one thing to happen. One would expect that the salesman is seen as a true hero and a prototype for other salesmen. The story turns out the other way. .
His boss shows him a lack of respect by saying: ,,I can`t take blood from a stone" (New Context-page 93-line 71). All he wants is to have workers who are still productive. Even the salesman has been spending all his live working for this company, his boss is just interested in his profit. This can be seen at the following reaction of the salesman to his boos`s point of view: ,,You can`t eat the orange and throw the peel away, a man is not a fruit!" At the end the boss fires the salesman regardless of the salesman`s pesonal circumstances.
