Neutrality in Child Protection Mediation: An Analysis


There is no evidence presented in the introduction that hints to the research revealing any type of personal perspective on the problem area. Thus a conclusion cannot be drawn, nor can it be assumed that the researcher holds any bias towards the problem area. It is made evident that the investigation will be based solely on data gathered pertaining to the problem area; none of the data will include personal opinions belonging to the researcher or his staff. .
             There are often a large variety of individuals involved in the child protection services in large urban-metropolitan centers. The demographics of the participants often vary a great deal. The demographics of the participants were not described in great, however sufficient detail. It was stated that most of the families involved consisted of only one or two children (with the exception of one family), and were lead by a single mother, who often earned below $30,000 annually, and/ or receive some type of social financial assistance. Ethnicity was not at all taken into consideration in the selection of participants. The participants in the mediation evaluation included family from European, African, and mixed Euro-African decent. The demographics of the participants had little of any effect on the conclusions of the study, thus excessive detailing of such demographics is not necessary. .
             In the selection of participants in this study certain criteria were required for each family to meet in order to be eligible to participate. It has to be determined, long before participation in the study whether the family was suitable for study. Seven criteria were chosen for each participant to meet, ranging from the insured security of the child to competency of individuals to participate. Such criteria are more then sufficient to select appropriated participants. The numbers of participants selected as well as the type were also proper for such a study as this.
