3. Companies often have unethical practices such as slave labour to make more money. Companies can pay less amount of money to people in some countries, which results in a company getting the same quality of products and paying a lot less. In other countries people are paid a lot more for the same products. For example in Vietnam the Nike factory pays its employees twenty cents per hour, or $1.60 per day. Standard meals per day cost $2.10 and even these are hard to afford. The working conditions are also harsh. The employees only get one bathroom break and they are not allowed to drink water more than twice. Employees are also often punished if they are not working up to expectations or are break the rules. Punishments include being forced to run, stand in the sun, kneel on the floor with their hands in the air, cleaning the toilets and are forced to write over and over what they have done wrong like little children. Employees often faint due to heat, fumes and exhaustion. This is an example of violating the minimum wage law and the labour law. In Vietnam the maximum yearly overtime is 200 hours and the employees are working more than 500 hours and not getting paid for it. If an employee refuses he/she is simply laid off. .
