The meeting I observed was for the Bloomington Planning Commission. It was held at city hall in downtown Bloomington. The meeting began with the call to order, and then proceeded with the roll call. The purpose of these measures are to let observers know who is on the commission and who is attending the meeting. I noted that there were approximately 10 members on the board in attendance. The next procedure was called the minutes, whereby the members of the commission briefly review each case that was held at the previous meeting. .
Mainly, the meeting consisted of five cases which are all listed on the agenda. The first case was a continued public hearing filed by the city of Bloomington. They were requesting approval of a zoning map amendment to reclassify certain property from A- Agricultural district to M-2 Manufacturing district. As this case was announced each member was given the opportunity to speak in its regard. The members mostly, however, just discussed the differences between A- Agricultural and M-1 and M-2 districts. Only one person from the audience opted to speak about the case. He was a local business owner whom offered some questions on the case to get all of the details. After this informative discussion the members agreed to pass the case.
This next case was also regarding approval of a zoning map amendment to reclassify certain districts. There was no debate on the case itself, however, because the attorney for the other party requested a continuance. There was a discussion, though, on the flexibility of the board to keep granting this attorney continuances, since it was the third time he had received one. The board came to the conclusion that they will grant the attorney one more continuance and then proceed to hear the case. .
The third case was a continued public hearing filed by the city of Bloomington, requesting approval of a zoning text amendment by permitting the temporary outdoor storage of inventory goods and products to be sold at retail in certain shopping and business districts.
