I think that begging should remain a criminal offence.
Having people begging on every corner is not a very pretty sight for our tourists. Coming into a country and seeing such things may make people not want to return again. It is unfair that people have to work hard for their money and these people just get it handed to them. Also you don't know where your money you give them is going, it may not be for their sick child but for drugs or alcohol.
How would you like to go to another country and have some dirty person come up to you and start harassing you for money? Some would disagree with me, they would say that it makes places like the city interesting and give its some culture. However, I believe they are wrong and they makes they streets look dirty, crowded and personally myself I find them quite scary. Some aren't as bad as others but it isn't the most entertaining thing to have someone come up to you and beg for money. Also tourists may feel like they are being harassed.
The second point is that people should work for their money. Some people would disagree with me, they would say it's not that easy to find jobs. Not everyone has the right skills to be able to get a job. If they do not have a place to live they can not get the dole therefore they can not have money to buy new clothes or helpful items to try and get a job. However, I believe they are wrong because if they were really serious and wanted to get a job to get money they would try to get help. They might go to a refuge or a shelter and see what they can do for them. They should have to work for their money just like every one else.
The third point is that you never know what the money's real use is. Some would disagree with me, they would say that if they were to use the money for drugs or alcohol they would just do petty theft, or if into the hard core drugs maybe robberies or hold ups. However, I believe they are wrong because there is a chance of being caught and put into jail doing such crimes.
