Chopin was a great composer. His talents in writing are displayed through his compositions. Chopin's first concert was on "24 February 1818.""8 A concerto by Adalbert Gyrovetz was played. Chopin was well received and soon began to play in salons, meeting places for philisopes. Later Chopin wanted to "Let the Viennese and the Parisians judge [him].""9 On "31 July 1829- Chopin arrived in Vienna and because "It was predicted he would be all the rage,"" Chopin agreed to give a concert.10,11 Gallenberg, a friend of Beethoven's, offered Chopin the auditorium of the Kãrtnertor, and a Stein and Graff piano for his first concert. Chopin said that, "Gallenberg is reassured by the fact that [Chopin] is not attacking his pocket [Chopin] is setting [himself] up [there] as being disinterested; [Chopin] [was] an artist for art's sake.""12 On "11 August 1829,"" Chopin had to improvise at his first concert, as the orchestra refused to play the "Kracoviac.""13 Chopin was a great pianist and in a letter he to Titus said, "[His] improvisation received a storm of applause.""14 .
Chopin could improvise on the piano, phrasing music and connecting chords together with undertones, which are soft notes that fill the chords. He learned how to play piano very well, even before writing music. That in part with his natural ability was the key to Chopin's success. Because of Chopin's mastery of musical theory he was able to contribute to it, by inventing new chords, expressions and movements. Franz Liszt, a friend and admirer of Chopin wrote, "Those subsequently concerned with the history of music will determine [Chopin's] role there, surely a great one, distinguished by such rare melodic genius, by such happy remarkable expansions of harmonic texture, that his triumphs will rightly supersede any a work of greater extent though it be played and replayed by great orchestras, sung and resung by a swarm of prime donne.
