Brown vs. Board of education

The minority children were being sent the message that it was not okay to be the way they were. They were being taught that it was ideal to be a white, upper class child. .
The sad part about all this is that it still exists in our country today. Children that are suffering in poverty, living in ghettos, do not have an equal chance to get the education those children living in well off cities do. Taxes pay for public schools, but if the taxpayers can't afford to live in a higher-class city, not being able to pay higher taxes, then the schools in those ghettos will never be equal to the schools in "rich" neighborhoods. These children could be shipped out into white schools to force desegregation, but it would not necessarily make a difference for the better. The children would not be accepted into the wealthier schools because they were poor, and for the majority, black. As one minority student said about her own experience in a "white" school, " They wouldn't play with me. I couldn't understand it. During recess I would stand there by myself beside the fence. Then one day I got a note: "Go back to Africa."" (Life on the Mississippi) This comment is very startling because in America everyone is supposed to be equal, and the people are supposed to be brothers and sisters. This quote tells us that we are not achieving the perfect American dream to be free. In the Constitution of the United States of America it is said that every American citizen is entitled to their God given rights. There is nothing stating that if you are a minority you have to attend a lesser school. These situations should not exist in our country today, yet they do. We need to try and fix this, but the question is what can we do? .
Children in ghettos are at a disadvantage, not only because they do not have money, and are not healthy, but also because they could not get into the same colleges as children from wealthy families, which means they can not ensure their future families a better life.
