             To legally hunt deer you must have a license. A resident of Kansas pays $19.00 for their license, while a non-resident pays $71.00 for a hunting license. A Kansas resident is allowed to purchase eight tags; one tag is an antler tag, and the other seven are reserved for antlerless deer. This means that each residential hunter is allowed to shoot one deer with antlers and seven without antlers. A non-Kansas resident is allowed to purchase seven tags, once again, only one antlered deer is allowed. Each tag costs $30.50. .
             In Kansas you are allowed to hunt deer with a muzzleloader from September 13 until September 26. A muzzleloader is a gun that is loaded by hand with black gunpowder. A muzzleloader is like an old-fashioned musket. From October 1 to December 2 and then again from December 15 until December 31, you can begin hunting with a bow and arrow, just like the Indians. You also have the option of shooting with a crossbow instead of the traditional bow and arrow. Some see the crossbow as a more fierce and cold weapon to hunt with because of the viciousness of the kill. The time between December 3 and December 14 is firearms season. This time is usually used to shoot the one buck you are allowed each year. You are only allowed to shoot with guns during this section of the deer season. There is an extended firearms season that runs from January 1 to January 4. This season is set aside strictly for shooting antlerless deer. This helps hunters because then they can focus on shooting their antlered deer during the first firearms season, and use the second season to fill the rest of their antlerless tags. .
             One solution to overpopulation would be to extend the deer season.
