It has often been said that everything changes, the only constant is change, and that nothing ever remains the same. One of the things that mark us as humans is our fascination with change. Newspapers can run different articles, which include continuity and change; this is shown in the article tilted "men still on top" which has been taken from the sun herald in Melbourne. It is quoted on top of the article "women supposedly get equal pay for equal work but they"re yet to achieve equal promotion ". Women are fighting for an equal right to equal pay. Now, it is also the right to the same career paths, the same job opportunities as men. Continuity is reflected in the article on the fact that for three decades now, women are still fighting for equality. A survey by the graduate careers council of Australia confirmed a salary gap still exists between male and female university graduates. The discrepancy was about $2500 and it does not improve as the graduates follow their career paths. The article quotes " females who graduated in 1985 were earning about 17 per cent less than men within five years. Change has occurred the Industrial Arbitration Amendment Act 1958 ruled that where applicable, equal pay was to be phased in by 1963. At last a change occurred and women could expect to be paid the same as men for doing the same job. Next came the fight for equal job opportunities. There was a Sex discrimination Act in 1984, followed two years later by the affirmative Action (Equal Employment Opportunity for Women) Act. I believe that the change has had a lack in progress for women today in Australia .to be living in such modernized society With so much political and legal support we shouldn't still be asking ourselves why is it that women still earn considerably less than men? Technically women should be treated the same. .
This affects my experience as an individual because in the future I strongly believe that women should be equal for if women don't rise to the top soon this can end up as a downfall in the future and that can only happen if we don't take more of a punt on giving women a go.
