Throughout time, areas have changed, affecting societies. In Europe, societies have changed mainly for the better. In Western Europe, feudalism was one of the first governments, but later through time, areas advanced making their governments more efficient. Also, intellectually, societies grew more advanced and were starting to be able to explain more events. Lastly, art and literature flourished as time incremented. These changes, consisting from the years 476 AD to 1350 AD, improved Western Europe dramatically.
A major change that took place over time was the improvement of government systems and policies during the middle Ages. In the sixth century, Europe went into a period of feudalism. This system of government in the early days consisted locally and wasn't really centralized. With the help of Charlemagne however, feudalism became more stable and started to centralize large states. This also proved to reduce warfare. As time passed however, kings used the feudal system to build there own power. For example, the Capitan royal family of France used asserted their power in taxing people like the church. When William the Conqueror took power, he standardized laws and created the book called Doomsday- a more efficient way of taxing people. Finally, in the year 1215, the people of Britain could not take the taxes that burdened them from the king. The forced the king to sign the Magna Charta, which was a bill that limited the monarch's rule of the land. Later, in 1267, parliament was developed which would set even more standards for the king to follow and gave the people more of a say in the government. Over time, governments were shown to have improved by limiting the power of the monarch and by setting new standards for letting the people have a say in government policies.
In time, thoughts on religion have changed. Prior to the year 1000 AD, a very small amount of clergy attempted to preserve and interpret the past.
