The writing's and idea's of the brilliant authors, Artur Miller and Rinde Eckert have many compared both in similar and different thoughts. Willy Loman, the main character in Artur Miller's The Death of a Salesman, has many of the same characteristics as Richard Ravenshead, main character in Rinde Eckert's musical, opera Ravenshead. Both Willy and Richard have been portrayed as people with many of the same feelings. They both share the feeling of the importance of being well liked, their goals, hopes and dreams in their lives which connects to their ideas about success. Willy and Richard also have a lot of the same character flaws. Although Willy Loman and Richard Ravenshead had some contrasting aspects about them, they definitely have many more similar aspects than different.
Willy Loman and Richard Ravenshead share many of the same feelings but one of the most important parts of their lives is the importance of being well liked. For Willy being liked had a lot to do with his job as a salesman. For Willy, not only did being well liked give him comfort but it also meant that the more popular he was the less he would lack in life. He was once a very popular salesman, he was known throughout New England, but as the times changed so did his level of popularity. He became less and less known which really hurt his ego. This happening also forced him to lie about things in order to be accepted. Richard Ravenshead wanted to sail around the world in order to be popular. He only did it for the fame and the fact that he would be known every where. He was willing to do any thing, even cheat, to be in first place because in Richard's mind second place was losing all together and first was the only place people cared about. Because Willy and Richard lived two different life styles they obviously did not have the same reasons for why being well liked was so important, but it still was a very comparable characteristic in both of these characters.
