Characteristics in Lukes gospel.

Of the ten lepers only the Samaritan returns to give thanks (ch17v11-19). The Jews hated the Samaritans but this is over passed in the universal love of God in Jesus.
The Gentiles are also included in this universal. Luke shows Jesus speaking to Gentiles publicly with approval regularly throughout the gospel some examples are as follows: It was in a Gentile centurion that Jesus found a faith the like of which he had never found in Israel (ch7v1-10), the widow of Sarepta and Naoman. Luke ch13v29 "People will come from the east, west, north and south and will sit down at the table in the kingdom of God." Gods invitation is not to a nation but to a world. Luke has used no material in his Gospel that might be used to lessen and limit and narrow the universal love of God. .
Luke also makes a place for the poor. It is likely that what Luke saw as a Doctor gave him passionate concern for the poor. Luke ch6v20-21 " happy you people who are poor, because the kingdom of God belongs to you . people who are now hungry because you will be satisfied- ch6v24-25 "But how terrible it will be for you who are rich .how terrible it will be for you who are full now because you will be hungry." Luke also tells a parable of the rich man and the poor man.
Luke also sees the universal love embracing the outcasts. There are various examples through out the book of Luke when Jesus has come in contact with outcasts and shown love towards them. Tax collectors were hated by the many for steeling money but yet Jesus calls Matthew, who was a Tax collector to be one of his disciples. We see Jesus staying with Zacchaeus; the best hated man in Jericho ch19v2-10. Luke ch15v1-2) "The Tax collectors and sinners all came to listen to Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain "Look this man welcomes sinners and even eats with them." .
Luke's shows Jesus in his Gospel as a man who welcomes rich and poor, distinguished and disreputable, saint and sinner alike.
