Romeo and Juliet is one of the best plays that Shakespeare wrote. In this essay I am going to analyse the behaviour of Juliet in Act 4 Scene 3 when Juliet says her last words before she takes the sleeping potion which the Friar gave her. .
Juliet feels that the nurse has betrayed her by telling her to listen to her father and to marry Paris. Her father thinks it's best that she marries Count Paris because he is good looking, rich and famous. He is furious when Juliet tells him that she will not marry him because he has spent time looking for the right man which will suit the needs of her daughter, Juliet. .
Juliet is in a dilemma She is married to Romeo; the killer of Tybalt and enemy of the Capulets and now she has been told to marry another person which her father has chosen, a person that she does not love as much as she loves Romeo, but if she doesn't marry Paris then she will be thrown out of the Capulet house.
She goes to see Friar for help,.
O shut the door! and when thou hast done so, .
Come weep with me; past hope, past cure, past help! .
He thinks of a plan which is; to drink a sleeping potion which will make Juliet sleep for fourty two hours. Everyone would think that she is dead she would be taken down to the Tomb of the Capulets. The Friar would tell Romeo and he would come down there just when Juliet is about to wake up. Juliet thinks this is the only thing she can do so she accepted it and decided to go through with the plan. She would rather die then live without her Romeo as she says in this quote;.
Be not so long to speak; I long to die,.
If what thou speak'st speak not of remedy.
During act 4 scene 3 she says to the nurse and Lady Capulet that she wants to be left alone that night because she "Have need of many orisons" this was obviously because she wants to drink the potion discreetly without anyone seeing to make her "death" look authentic. .
The nurse usually has a lot to say to Juliet but in this scene she doesn't say anything because she has already spoken to Juliet about what she thinks about her situation.
