Thank you for coming today, to be among those who loved Aristotle. I would like to say a few words in honor of Aristotle. Aristotle was the most influential person in the western culture. Most of or writing has been based upon his philosophy. Just think, Alexander wouldn't have been as great and neither would our writing. Without him we would be way behind in life. Most of you are probably wondering how did this man become how he was? Well, you will find out about that in just a moment but, I would like to make something clear. Aristotle was a great man and we owe a lot to him. Oh, and one more thing, please exit to the doors to your right.
Aristotle's life started out in 384 B.C., in Stigirus, a little town in Northern Greece, when he was born to his father, Nicomachus, who was a physician. Aristotle spent most of his years in Stigirus, until he was the age of seventeen. In 367 B.C. he went to Plato's Academy in Athens. At the age of eight-teen he refused to do the ancestral calling, a physician. He stayed at Plato's Academy and lived in Athens for twenty years, until his master, Plato, died in 347 B.C. When they decided who was going to be the next master, Aristotle left. He lived for four years on the Asiatic Coast, and for three years he was a guest of the Platonist named Hermias, Aristotle was called by King Phillip of Macedon where he educated young thirteen year old Alexander. Philip died seven years later after Aristotle's arrival. In between this two years, Aristotle taught Alexander about Greece and its people and culture, and Alexander became very interested. So out of respect, Aristotle stayed with Alexander, who was now at the age of twenty, at the throne until he was settled. Around 335/4 B.C., Aristotle returned to Athens and founded his own school in Lyceum. His school was formed after Plato Academy. "It was formed as a religious brotherhood." .
Aristotle was a productive writer and he was described as "fond and dandy of good living.
