The testament reaction

The movie "The Testament" has extreme examples of violence versus non violence. The premise of the movie is based on the most violent act there is, the use of nuclear weapons. The storyline, however, displays extreme acts of non-violence as well.
The plot of the story is the aftermath of a nuclear winter. The movie follows a family of five who have lost their father due to the nuclear winter. The mother is alone in her battle to try to live through this terrible ordeal with her children. The first act of non-violence occurs the day after the nuclear winter. As the family is eating breakfast, a child comes to the door. He is a neighbor of the family, and asks to stay with the family until his parents come home. It is apparent that his parents are not coming home, that they are victims of the nuclear winter as well. Even at this extremely scary time, when resources are extremely limited, the mother invites the child inside and becmes his surrogate mother. I think this is a fantastic act of non-violence. In this time of chaos, confusion, and uncertainty, the mother is willing to possibly risk the wellbeing of herself and her children in order to help an abondoned child. This was a very touching storyline in my opinion. .
The next act of non-violence is displayed by the townspeople as a whole. The town has a meeting in the church to try and make some sense of their current situation and talk about what needed to be done. It is very depressing, yet it showed the town on a whole did not resort to violence, even in this very hopeless situation. It takes extreme caring and trust to be facing a situation such as certain death, and still not resort to violence.
There was one scene in the movie imparticular which did have violent undertones to it. The town bully broke into the families house and stole some food, then proceeded to steel the sons bike in his retreat. This showed the darker side of humans, the side which resorts to brute force and abandons restraint during a crisis.
