Body language simply is communication without words. Therefore it is non-verbal communication. Between 60-80% of our entire messages are communicated through our body language, only 7-10% of the actual words said during conversation are barely understood to the rate of body language. It is when we use certain parts of our body to get a message across, establish meaning and show others our ideas. It is widely used by nearly everyone, when trying to strengthen a particular idea or meaning. Some people might not even know they are using it. Body language can be both intended and accidental. Messages can be passed between people, without any communication being needed. Words are not needed, as the body movements are a language itself, which tells the whole story. It is also used as a form of flirtation between couples, and also is a road people may take to get what they want. Knowing how to read body language is a useful communication skill, so is knowing how to use it. Body language plays a huge part in many areas of the work industry. One example of this is in the Hospitality industry, especially in a bar, restaurant and hotel environment whilst serving and helping customers and patrons.
Body language can happen without anyone noticing, that is why it is argued that body language can occur at an unseen level. People make signs and gestures, called reflex signals without realising what they are doing. If you can work out the meaning of someone's reflex signals, you can understand a lot about their moods and feelings. Sometimes body language can get you in serious trouble and may be taken in the wrong way. By understanding body language it could help you in a job interview, a meeting, a business function, or even a special date! The most obvious reflex signal is shown on the face which are extremely useful to use when it's impossible to talk, one clear example is in a bar or club situation where there can be loud music, it could be anything from pointing to a nod of the head.
