The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most well known museums, not only in America, but in the whole world. Many people come to this great city just to visit this incredibly popular museum. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 and is located in New York City's Central Park along Fifth Avenue. It is visited by more than 5 million people annually from all over the world (An overview of the museum, para. 1). The museums collection includes more than two million works of art spanning 5,000 years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe (An overview of the museum, para. 2). The two-million-square-foot building has a great variety of different collections. For example, "the American Wing houses the world's most comprehensive collection of American paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, presently including 24 period rooms that offer an unparalleled view of American history and domestic life" (An overview of the museum, para. 3).
When I saw a list of museums, I definitely knew that the Metropolitan Museum of Art would be the greatest choice. And I was not disappointed. I do not go to museums very often because it takes too much of my free time. But the time I spent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was worth it. .
It was a sunny morning when I invited my friend to join me for the trip to the MET. When I got there, I saw a big long building consisting of 3 smaller ones. In the middle of the building there was a high and long front staircase with columns on both sides that lead to the entrance to the museum. While I was purchasing the tickets and entering the museum itself, every staff member was nice and answered all my stupid questions. The museum was pretty packed. There were a lot of tourists from all over the world. I even met people from my native country, Belarus. In other words, the MET is an incredibly popular museum.
First I wanted to see some very popular paintings, but when I got there, I found something more attractive and pleasant for my eyes.
