Violence in entertainment has been a problem in this past decade in how it affects the lives of children. Not only violence and adult material in television and movies have an effect on children, but also the content in music listened to by children and video games children play. I believe certain measures should be taken to reduce the bad content in entertainment, but also parents should pay closer attention to what their children watch and listen to.
The movie industry has gone a long way in what they show in the movie. Back in the 1950's and 60's there wasn't too much violence, strong language or adult content in movies. In present times, those are some common things shown in every movie. Also back then, there weren't any advertisements directed to young children. .
Every day on television shows or movies, no matter what channel or what movie you"re watching, there will most likely be an advertisement for an R- rated or PG-13 movie. Most of these movies are not proper for young children. Kids nowadays think that movies with guns and violence are "cool." Any person now can change the channel to watch an R rated or PG-13 movie. It is also not so difficult to rent a movie you"re not supposed to rent. Lately trying to buy an R- rated movie ticket at my age has been difficult because movie theaters have been taking many precautions. However, less than one year ago I used to be able to go to a ticket booth and buy tickets to any movie I wanted to see. Now if I can't buy a ticket to the movie I want to see, it is still easy to just walk into any theater I don't have a ticket for because of the lack of security. Violence in the movie industry is one thing people have been trying to change but have not been so successful, but I believe that that the movie industry will not change too much, it is the parents that need to learn how to control what their children watch.
Another form of entertainment that can affect a child's life is music.
