I can still remember my first day of freshman year. As I walked through the doors of Holy Trinity, I felt as if I was entering into a new, profound, and exciting experience. My years at Holy Trinity High School, thus far, have proven to be all of these things, and more. High school has been a wonderful learning experience for me. I have learned so much about the world around me as well as about myself. For the past three years, I have worked hard in the areas of service, scholarship, leadership, and character. I feel that in order to be successful in high school, it is essential to be a well-rounded individual. That is, a student must excel academically, maintain their personal development, and have an active role in their home and school communities.
When it comes to service, my philosophy is: what good are your talents and abilities if you don't share them with others? In following with my philosophy, some of my activities include volunteering at my local hospital, teaching religious education to public school children in my parish, and playing the violin for special events at my mother's job. In my school community I have participated in events such as open house, cooking churros and tostada for Spanish night, and tutoring freshmen students who are struggling in their Spanish classes. I find tutoring the most rewarding of all my volunteer experiences, because I am able to give another student the power of knowledge, and that is both humbling and gratifying to me.
Those who know me well would describe me as being very studious. I consistently give teachers my very best work because I don't expect any less than that from myself. Also, I have come to an understanding that no human being is perfect. When I study, my main goal is not to get a perfect score tests, but to gain a deeper understanding of the material. Interestingly, it is with this perspective on academics that I have been able to get such high grades and keep an impressive grade point average.
