Comparing cousin kate and the seduction


As it was almost constant all the way through, on the second and fourth lines always rhymed which always rhymed. Except on verse three and on verse nine. This shows that in these two verses" there was a topic change or was a mood change in the poem.
             Whereas Cousin Kate had constant use of rhyme all the way through it by using rhyming couplets. This means that the scheme of the rhyme was as follows. Rhyme line, non-rhyme line and then rhyme line again.
             Eileen McAuley's poem, The Seduction, used third person narrative as it gave two sides of the story. But Christina Rosseti's poem, used first person narrative, only giving one point of view, as only one-person spoke.
             The opening versus" of the poem set the tone up.
             The opening verse of The Seduction indicates what is going to happen in the poem. Whereas in Cousin Kate it tells us what the unknown lady feels like and what she is thinking about.
             The personification was only used in Eileen McAuley's poem, which was written a lot later than Cousin Kate. The use of personification is used very well in The Seduction to build up the tension.
             They are used to describe the surroundings and to give an atmosphere to the poem. A couple that were used were "quiet bricks" and "The blind windows".
             The rhetorical questions were a big part of both the poems. These questions are to make, us, the readers, more involved into the story of the poems.
             These types of questions were quoted in the poems as, "For where now was the summer of her sixteenth year?" in The Seduction, and as "Why did the great lord find me out" in Cousin Kate.
             Both the poems used symbolism, quite often in the course of the whole poem in both cases.
             Symbolism was used in The Seduction as "all high white shoes" to symbolise that the girl was actually quite innocent.
             In Cousin Kate it was used as "Who might have been a dove" this was used to describe peace, kindness and innocence.
             The class used in The Seduction is the working class we can tell this by the way he said that he use to come here when he was in school.
