What is the Korean War all about? I had no clue, so that is where my research started. I was off on a quest to discover the Korean War. After accomplishing the main jest of the war, I began too look into the propaganda of the war. Through this research I found some fascinating flyers that both sides used to drop on each other. I will begin by briefly explaining the war, and then I will share about the propaganda.
The Korean War was over the spread of Communism. After WWII a line at the 38th parallel was established to separate North Korea from South Korea. The North was completely Communistic (probably due to the high influence of Japan, and the Russian soldiers that occupied their land) and the South (occupied by American troops) ready for a new way of life. A life of not bound by Communism, but that was Capitalistic.
In 1947, the UN General Assembly declared that elections should be held throughout Korea to choose one government for the entire country. The UN was trying to help Korea become united under one government, but neither side was willing to compromise. Although North and South Korea would claim the entire country, troops clashed near the border several times from 1948 to 1950. The United States pulled their last troops out in 1949, and soon after Communism Korea decided that now was the time to take military action. .
This started the outbreak of war. North Korea invaded South Korea. Unfortunately the North had far more men (about 135,00), airplanes, artillery, and tanks than the South who only had 95,000 men, few planes or heavy guns and no tanks. Obviously, the South couldn"t defend them self properly. .
So this is where the UN stepped in and called the invasion a violation of international peace and demanded that the Communists withdraw. The North (Communists) didn"t stop their attacks so the UN stepped in and started to send supplies and men to South Korea. Forty-one countries sent military equipment, supplies and food, but the US sent more than 90% of their troops, military equipment, and supplies.
