In 1895, Daniel David Palmer founded the study of Chiropractic healthcare. He believed that the source of many physical problems was the nervous system and could be treated through Spinal Manipulations otherwise known as adjustments, or other forms of chiropractic care. Though technology has changed many aspects of the profession it still remains faithful to Palmers basic Philosophy.
On a patients first visit to a chiropractic office the following duties are performed:.
1. The chiropractor asks the patient about his/her medical history and about any possible previous treatment.
2. The chiropractor will perform a complete medical examination of the problem area(s).
3. The chiropractor will also send the patient to get x-rays done so he/she can better assess the problem areas.
After the initial check-up is complete the chiropractor will show the patient their x-rays and the problem areas. If the problems can be treated through chiropractic care he chiropractor will recommend a course of treatment. The average courses of treatment consist of chiropractic manipulation, soft-tissue massage, stretching and sometimes ultrasound and/or electro-therapy. Chiropractors do NOT perform any kinds of surgery of prescribe any drugs.
The most common of all bodily malfunctions chiropractic deals with is the Vertebral Subluxation. A Vertebral Subluxation is the misalignment and/or fixation of bones, resulting in nerve pressure or irritation. Even the slightest misalignment of the vertebrae can pinch the nerve applying damaging pressure and irritation upon nerves, which affects improper communication of vital nerve impulses to the organs, cells and tissues of the body. Therefore the greater the misalignment the greater it's affect on the nerve.
If you are suffering from headaches, stiffness of neck, pain between shoulders, backache, pain in arms or legs, numbness in hands and feet or general nervousness chances are that you could have a vertebral Subluxation.
