Although the King may think he knows Becket very well; he may not know how honor and collaboration truly is. The statement foreshadows Becket's death because the way that Becket interprets honor is by living. He would die to be known as an honorable man; instead of him live and be known as one who follows and does everything the King says. The idea of honor is illustrated throughout the film by the way that Becket follows his heart and is honorable to his own decisions in life.
Becket answering to the King when the King asks him how he combines, honor and collaboration foreshadows Becket's death. Becket answers ."one collaborates to live . Honor is a concern of living One can't be concerned about it once is dead Honor is a private matter within. It is an idea and every man has his own version of it." He foreshadows his own death for the reason that at the end he chooses his honor instead of following the King. He was similar to the King and use to do things like him, but then he decided to change his ways. Becket knows that he won't be true if he follows the King. .
The king never thought that Becket would turn on him. Since Becket was being true to himself, he dies, but died on a good note, that he was a good man while he was alive. Because he died on a good note and was honorable, meant that you were sent to heaven in your after life. When Becket dies, his word and honor will still be remembered and he will be known as a good man because he changed his life around for the better. .
Honor is illustrated throughout this film by the way that Becket decides not to follow the King, but instead he follows his heart. Although the King gives him power, Becket went against the King because he has a different belief. Becket views life in a different way then the King because of religion. Becket lives by God, and honor God. Because Becket has changed, his life style, and didn't sin towards the end like he use to with the King; the King followed Becket, and honored him.
