Having read King Lear, one is left with shock, disappointment, and sadness realizing that the world can be so cruel and unjust. King Lear is a reality made fiction. It reflects an image of our modern world in which most people are not human beings anymore. Everyone seeks for his/her own interests without paying attention to any restrictions. And as in King Lear, blood is not thicker than water anymore. The familial bonds have been shaken in King Lear. Family members are mistreated by each other. Brothers and sisters betray each other and betray their fathers. The play also raises an obvious question for everyone to think about, whether there is any possibility of justice in the world, or whether the world is indifferent or even aggressive to humankind. The play indirectly shows that there is no room for justice through its succession of terrible events and through what happened for the characters who called for justice at the end of the play. King Lear also has a political approach for it is not only about family dynamics. Lear is not only a father but also a king, and when he gives away his kingdom and his authority to the unworthy Goneril and Regan, he does not only put himself and his family in trouble, but he also causes the instability of the whole kingdom because of the British civil war which has been provoked by the heirs. This literally work of Shakespeare explores many ideas for people to think about. In fact it touches our own life. It is weird how Shakespeare could predict some things about the future including the downfall of families and political authorities. He could predict how people nowadays stab each other in the back what they want to get something so badly. King Lear is a conflict between the virtuous and the wicked each of which trying to survive in a mad world that smashes the weak and stands with the strong. However, in King Lear both the Good and the wicked are defeated by the end of the play leaving us stunned by the way good people may end up.
