Aphrodite

Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, played an important role in mythology. She was involved in many different love affairs and battles. From the time she was born, to the time she died, Aphrodite helped many, hurt many, and married many. .
In order to take revenge against her husband Gaea persuaded her son, Cronus, the youngest Titan, to castrate his father. In return, she promised Cronus that he would rule the world. Uranus, Gaea's husband, hated his children and kept them locked in the depths of the Earth. Gaea released Cronus and armed him with a sickle. When Uranus came to lie with Gaea that night, Cronus cut off his father's testicles and threw them into the sea. From the wound black blood dropped and the drops, seeping into the earth, fertilized Gaea and she gave birth to the Erinyes, the Giants, and to the ash-tree Nymphs, the Meliads. Uranus' discarded genitals broke into white foam. Aphrodite soon appeared in the foam, naked, standing in a giant seashell. She was carried across the sea, to Cythera and then to Cyprus, by the god of the west wind, Zephyrus. There Aphrodite was welcomed by the Themis' daughter, Horae, who dressed her up, adorned her with precious jewels, and then took her to the Immortals, to Olympus. Before Aphrodite arrived at the island of Cythera, it was sandy and rocky, with only a few birds and flowers, but soon after, it started to bloom into the most beautiful place in Greece. .
One major problem for Aphrodite was that every man wanted her to be his wife. Aphrodite's arrival to Olympus was greeted among the gods, and each one of them wanted to marry her. It was lame and ugly Hephaestus, also called Vulcan, who managed to win her for a wife. But Aphrodite wasn't faithful to her husband for a very long time. He was hardworking and faithful, but extremely ugly. At first, Aphrodite was miserable, but she realized how helpful he could be for her. Hephaestus made her a magic girdle or belt, called a "cestus-, which was supposed to increase her attractions and make her irresistible.
