Wuthering Heights:

This revenge is all a result of Heathcliff's mistreatment at Wuthering Heights by Hindley Earnshaw, as well as the fact that Catherine chose to marry Edgar instead of himself. It is for these reasons as well as merely personal gain that Heathcliff has returned to get his revenge over both houses in the area.
Heathcliff and Isabella are married but very early into the marriage (as in a matter of hours), Heathcliff, who is described as a "pitiless, wolfish man" begins to treat Isabella very badly, as is described in a letter she sent to Nelly Dean, and the new Mrs. Heathcliff begins to regret her rushed decision of marriage very quickly.
The second example of marriages for revenge of power is that between Cathy and Linton. Cathy and Linton meet during Cathy's visit to the Heights, and after becoming friendly with the very sickly and weak son of Heathcliff, they decide to keep in contact by writing letters to each other. These letters soon turn towards a romantic nature, and soon enough Cathy is visiting Linton on a regular basis.
But the more she does this, the more Cathy begins to realise Linton's true nature and ultimately, she starts to dislike him. Her visits to the Heights become less and less frequent, as do the letters she sends him. Heathcliff, who has been planning their marriage from the very beginning, in order to allow him to acquire Thrushcross Grange, begins to panic that his plan of revenge may be ruined should the two of them not be together. With Cathy's father near to death, Heathcliff takes advantage of the situation by inviting Cathy up to the Heights in order to rest from caring for Edgar. Reluctantly, she agrees and goes to visit Linton along with Nelly Dean, but upon their arrival the two of them are, in effect, held hostage in Wuthering Heights, with Heathcliff refusing to let them back to Thrushcross Grange unless Cathy agrees to marry Linton immediately.
