After we stop hiding who we truly are, our talents will have the opportunity to come to the fore. An example of this is when I was in Fifth grade. As a class we all had to write poetry about the surroundings outside of our school. All of the kids in my class wrote the same kind of rhyming style poem, except for me. I decided that I wasn't going to write a poem that rhymed. After a series of poems were read, I read mine. . After I finished I think my classmates appreciated the poem though, because I did something different. I finished though I ended up getting an A on the paper and the next time we wrote poems were assigned to all write poems that didn't rhyme.
Second, society teaches us to conform by not thinking for ourselves. We are simply told how to solve a problem or accomplish a task. We are hardy ever taught why or how something works. If we do not attempt to break out of that mold, we will never get to the point where we wonder why or how things work. A young child constantly asks "why?" He has yet to realize that it does not matter, according to teachers and leaders of society, why the sky is blue. It only matters that it is blue. Perhaps there is an underlying fear that if we begin to question innocent things like the color of the sky, we will one day begin to question politics, economics, etc. Then we might discover that the many "great leaders" in this world have convinced us to believe their version of the truth. To explain this when I was in kindergarten our class had a pet hamster called Fuzzle. One day I came into class and I saw a different hamster in the cage, so I asked the teacher where Fuzzle was. She told me that Fuzzle had to go away for a little bit to see his family in Hamsterdam, but his brother, Fuzzball would be our new pet. I accepted this as truth, because one, I was a little nave and also that story made me feel more secure. Society wants us to conform to the things that they have to say so we can have a certain sense of security.
