nurture, or are criminals born or made has been debated between experts over years. The conclusion is unclear and is intangible, but there are several theories in which leads oneself to an answer. Researching both sides of the debate, criminals are born and made, they are essentially themselves because of nature and nurture. Serial killers do these crimes primarily due to nature and nurture. This essay will prove that Serial killers commit these crimes due to nature and nurture, using examples such as; Science experiments, the effects of nurture on a baby, and profiling the characteristics of Serial killers.
The nature side of the debate is based on that a person attains their mental ability from birth with genetics in factor. The other side, nurture, in which atmosphere and environment play key roles in someone's mental ability.
Science experiments have been conducted to show both sides of the debate, nature and nurture. Supporting the nature side, as it plays a key role in someone's way of thinking, and their personality, the twin's studies was conducted. These studies are conducted to determine the influence of genetics and environment on twins that are separated at birth, both identical and fraternal. "The genetic contribution to happiness and stability are about 50% and 80%, respectively, while life events have only a transitory effect on happiness"(Segal pg. 55). So, relating this to anger and other feelings, they maybe hereditary. Serial killers may have these urges to kill, or have anger towards the world, or the desire to be in control, could be passed down in genetic make up. Watching videos in class, many of the twins had same tastes, do same things for fun, and handle situations the same. Serial killers no doubt are influenced by nature. There also have been studies at adoption agencies. The experiment conducted to see if the children's I.Q is hereditary studying the child, the birth parents and the adoption parents.
