Film stills

I decided to work with the genre of horror simple due to myself being familiar with many horror films. Through research into horror films I decided to base my work on a series of images depicting a murderer entering a house, which would be done by using certain lighting and crops. In my first shoot I experimented with lighting angles and subject positions, from this I established to limit further shoots to three final subject positions and also to use only back lighting. After producing the three final images I decided to give the images a red colour cast which was done using a colour enlarger.
Overall I"m fairly pleased with my images. They clearly illustrate a person entering a house and approaching a room ready with a rope in his hand. The fact that he is a murder is suggested by the gloomy atmosphere, which is contributed mainly by the back lighting. This lighting takes away any of the subjects details, thus leaving a dark figure whose identity is hidden. Also the blur, created by the broken tripod, adds ghostly appearances to the subject. Finally the red colour can be related to evil, blood and terror. Therefore I feel the images clearly hint the plot and give an idea of the film's genre. Also the fact that the images are all portrait format and all consist of the same colour cast helps them to work together better.
Despite being all of the above there are still many aspects which I"m not happy with. Firstly the first image could have been shot a higher ups the stairs to clearly indicate that he is walking up a stair case. The framing of the third image is wrong, the rope should have been exactly in the centre of the image. Finally in the second image the light is surrounded by darkness, which is the opposite of the other two images, thus making the series not work as well. Also if I intended to involve blur from the start , I would have created a much better ghostly appearances.
