Another member of the Jarret family that has shown signs of psychological help is Cal Jarret. At this point of time in Cal's life he is having a tough time believing that he has raised his children well. He cannot help but think that he is the reason why one of his sons is dead and the other tried to commit suicide. Cal seems to have a harsh time letting go and moving on since the accident. He is very vigilant about his decisions because he does not want to have another scare. "Responsibility. That is fatherhood. You cannot afford to miss any signs, because that is how it happens: somebody holding too much inside, somebody else missing signs."(Guest 9) Cal is having several conflicts with his wife also. Beth, Cal's wife wants to go to London. However, Cal is having a difficult time not believing that another accident may occur. Beth knows the reason why Cal does not want to go to London and asks him ""Then, are we going to live like this? With it always hanging over our heads?"" (Guest 30) He denies that anything is hanging over his head, yet he can't help but think it was his fault. Call also has internal struggles. Even since he was younger, he has always felt lost and unsure of who he is. The fact that he did not have a father is a huge factor as well. "If she knew, though, that it is not only of Conrad but of himself that he is asking questions now; basic, hopeless questions that mock him, finger him as a joker, a bumbler, a poor dope. Who the hell are you? As he walks down the street, and who can step in time to that music for more than thirty seconds?" Cal seems to not have had a breakthrough. In fact, he seems to be heading towards a downfall. He is having a hard time of letting things go. Cal should go on vacation with his family. Con has already told him that he doesn't care where he is. Also, Beth will be more contented and it is apparent he is proud of the envy his wife causes when she enters a room.
