This means to be confident in your own abilities and to be in charge rather than to take orders. The name "Management" emphasizes that this position needs much control over data, staff and others in order to do the work. For example; being a supervisor or head of the Medical Records Department needs leadership and organizing skills in order to manage the department in a systematic and dynamic way. In addition, maintaining justice when dealing with any issue is a noble quality a good HIM leader should have. Combining the leadership with the ability to put into practice issues of confidentiality and security among staff and others is also crucial. .
The second quality that any successful HIM would probably is an the investigative quality, which involves people who like to observe, learn, investigate, evaluate, and solve problems. .

This profession requires personal development and education as this profession changes almost every year with new issues, rules, policies, procedures, even the books.etc. In the United Arab Emirates, the Higher Colleges of Technology have graduated four HIM groups is four years, but each of them have studied and taken some subjects or things that are different from the previous group.
