Differences between new england and virginia

During the Colonial times New England and Virginia had stable democratic developments. Because of growth and advancement of political, economic and social status New England provided. It was considered more democratic than Virginia .
From the beginning of settling the New England colonies, New England already had the thought of practicing a self-governed colony. This gave people the change to have their own government. Going all the way back to the Pilgrims and the Mayflower Compact in Plymouth, Massachusetts it was the first colonial agreement that formed a government by the consent of the governed. The compact gave the settlers the power to frame and enact laws for the general good of the planned settlement. Other colonies such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts also succeeded in setting up their own political systems. Settlers in Connecticut had the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut. It created a government, which gave the vote to all men who were property owners, including men who were not church members and it limited the governor's power. This was different from Virginia's House of Burgesses because it gave more equality to men. Virginia also gave the representatives more power making laws, while the Fundamental Orders limited its representative's power.
Virginia was famous for their growth of Tobacco. It swept all over the colony as tobacco crops were planted everywhere. Colonists started to look for more land to plant their tobacco and more laborers to work as slaves. From this economic growth, James I who established the Virginia Co. started to hate Virginia for its tobacco. He revoked the charter of bankrupt and beleaguered Virginia Company making Virginia a royal colony directly under his control. This caused tyranny in economic trade for Virginia. While in New England shipbuilding and merchant trades became prosperous. Merchants used routes such as triangular trades that made many merchants wealthy; in doing so they were disobeying the Navigation Acts put in them by the Dominion of England.
