The Crysalids

The Chrysalids is a fictional novel written by John Wyndham. The Chrysalids is a very well formatted book. The author's intensions of this book were to show that there are struggles that happen in everyday life. He shows that when people have a certain view, they have one-track minds, and sometimes never change their views on that view. It has an informative beginning, suspensful middle and end that ensures the reader of what happens in the future without actually writing it. .
The beginning of the book was exactly what was needed for it to set the ground works for the rest of the book. In the beginning we learnt whom the main characters where and very quickly we were told what type of a society Waknuk and the surrounding areas were. It was smart by the author to make some type of controversy very early in the book like he did. For example when he had David meet Sophie and have him figure out that she is a blasphemy. Once David didn't do anything about this like most "normal" people would, it showed the reader that David was not worried about looks and more worried about personality. Having David find something out so early in the book meant only one thing. He was going to find out more things and not tell anyone about them. This beginning made me want to read to see what type of trouble David would get in and how he would get himself out of it. .
The middle of the book was also very well written. When the author had David age six years in one chapter, that showed that nothing else eventful happens in David's childhood and he wanted the reader to experience more than just David as a child. The real action begins once David gets older. He starts to realize that there is more to life in Waknuk and that he will have to risk his life to get there. .
The end of the Chrysalids is also very good because it answers any quesitons the reader might have and also has some action and suspense mixed in with it.
