Arlington Road

There were numerous elements that the Lang family exhibited that were a demonstration of American political culture. One of these includes the fact that individual rights were held to be essential and very prominent with many Americans. Americans fought for these human rights since the Anti-federalists begged for a Bill of Rights to be added to the Constitution. Oliver Lang greatly showed a concern for individual rights, namely those of his own family. His anger toward the government began when he was young and he lost his farm, and as a result of money problems, his dad committed suicide so his family could have the insurance money. He was, in turn, very concerned about his own family's rights and safety, and had to ensure they would be alright. He entrusted his family's well-being with this terrorist group he was involved in; at the end of the movie he says how "they- will send them some place nice, some place safe. He puts individual rights above all else, and like a typical American, he will fight for these beliefs to whatever extent he has to. He practically made it his own civic duty to himself and his family to get our country rid of those awful FBI agents, as if they were the terrorist groups hurting our citizens. Americans tend to have a much greater tendency and will power and confidence in fighting for their rights, as well as for what they believe in. America challenges its government a lot, but that's what makes our system so democratic "it's open to change. Lang and his family also demonstrated how the government can betray us "through his reliance on efficacy; however, the government didn't come through. Lang had internal efficacy, however, he believed he could change the world in a different way; by blowing up buildings and making people pay for what they did to him. But it was the initial abandonment of the government and his reliance of external efficacy that made him so angry "he trusted the government and they let him down.
