Importance of training in international hospitality.
Particularly in the front office section.
Indian Scriptures start with the word "Sadna" - training or to train, develop and awaken oneself to serve others. It continues to say that you should be good to your guests - "Atithi devo bhava" and that one should speak as sweet as nectar- "madhumati vacham udeyam" (Atharvaveda). All these meaningful and pure verses do not exist for mere speaking or tell tales these exist to be put to practice. Imbibing them within us and putting them to practice would synergize this whole world and knit it into one big family whose members work for the benefit of each other.
My essay aims at bringing out the essence of "sadna" - training in the hospitality industry. I have discussed in brief the various sectors of the hospitality industry and then given piquant attention to the front office section. I have defined training and its kinds and have cited my reasons for the training requirements with regards to the international market and also skimmed through the importance of training to help in sensitizing people towards the diverse workforce. My views and analysis were inferred from myriads of information available on the web, newspapers, magazines, data collected from various books and through interaction with various people.
The hospitality industry is growing by the minute and is one of the top revenue generators and employers. Quality hotels are springing up everywhere. A recent survey conducted concluded that the Asian region has seen the growth of 3700 new hotels, in U.S.A 4500 new hotels have sprung up and 2700 are under construction or renovation, U.K and Australia too have seen remarkable growths in the industry.(HVS International journal, 2003). Thus its imperative to understand the need for excellent, consistent and quality service. People are more aware of their surroundings and demand nothing but the best.
