Shylock shows in the play that he is very greedy acting like his ducats are more important than his daughter, which just ran away. "A sealed bag, two sealed bags of ducats, of double ducats, stol"n from me by my daughter". Shylock also yelled about how he lost a bag of precious stones. " Two stones, two rich and precious stones. The only reason he wanted to find his daughter is to get his stones and ducats back.
Another characteristic of Shylock is he is villainous by mistreating Antonio, Jessica, and Launcelot. Shylock mistreats his own daughter, Jessica. He mistreats her by keeping her as a captive in her own house, not letting her out, and not letting her hear the Christian music around her and do anything that has to do with the Christians. He orders Jessica to lock up the windows and doors as soon as he leaves to go out on business. "Lock up my doors; and when you hear the drum But stop my house's ears-I mean casements. Let not the sound of shallow foppery enter my sober house." Jessica from this mistreatment refers to her house as hell and calls her father Satan. .
Another character shylock mistreats is Launcelot. Shylock mistreats Launcelot by complaining behind Launcelot's back of his laziness, he says "The patch is kind enough, but a huge feeder, Snail-slow in profit, and he sleeps by day More than the wildcat. Drones hive not with me His borrowed purse." Shylock mistreats this man because of his poverty, and because Launcelot is socially beneath him.
The last character of the play he mistreats is Antonio. He does so by talking behind Antonio's back, and he reveals his hatred of Antonio, when he says, "How like a fawning publican he looks! I hate him for he is a Christian; but more for that Cursed be my tribe if I forgive him". Shylock feels right in demanding revenge for all the bad things Antonio has causes him. The only way he will lend Antonio the money is if he agrees to the bond of the pond of flesh.
