It was a Monday morning on November 26, 2001 when neighbors awoke to the sound of "popping" coming from a nearby house. Terry Lee King owned the house that was burning. Everyone thought that it was just an accident, but when police found the body of King inside the house, this text book case turned into a twisted case about murder and innocence lost.
When fire fighters found Kings body, they thought that he had suffered from smoke inhalation. They notice that he had sustained injuries to his head. Further investigation found blood splattered on the walls, and it was declared a homicide. Investigators also said that King probably did not see his attackers, because of wear his head injuries were and how the blood splattered. Police started an investigation and found out that King had two boys, Alex King, 12 and Derek King, 13. Both boys were missing. The boys had been reported missing a few days ago, it was later found out that the boys came home nearly five hours before the fire, and then disappeared after.
A neighbor, Ricky Chavis said that he would testify that the boys were abused. The case seemed to get more and more complicated as information began to surface. Investigators looked up the boys history and found out that they were foster kids and that the boys were bounced around from family to family until about seven years ago when there real dad , Terry Lee took them back home. The boys had a history of running away and Derek even had admitted to using drugs. The boys seemed to the main suspects in this case. .
Investigators went to the boy s high school, Pace, and interviewed their principal, Frank Lay. The principle told the detectives about how Derek said his father would lock him in a closet and play "mind games" with him. Lay also said how Derek told him that Alex hated their father and he wanted to kill him, Lay also told the investigators about Rick Chavis, a neighbor that the boys would often go to for protection from their father.
