Beer

Sometimes during this stage things such as corn are added to create different types of beer. In this step the temperatures are highly monitored.
             # 3 Lauter Tun.
The "lauter tun" consists of large circle shaped vessels that are used to filter out the left over grains from the liquid malt/wort. After most of the wort has gone through the left over grains are sprayed with brew water, then raked to let through any more wort that had been stuck or left behind. When all of the wort is completely gone the grains are transferred to the "spent grains tank".
             #4 Brew Kettle.
The "brew kettle" is a stainless steel kettle where the filtered wort is sent after it has gone through the "lauter tun". Here the wort is boiled and the hops is added. The hops is added many time throughout the process to add flavor, aroma and bitterness. While the wort is boiled it is also undergoing sterilization, as well as allowing some of the water to evaporate to bring out the flavor and color. Another reason for the boiling to occur is so that the proteins can curdle and later be separated.
             # 5 Hot Wort Tank.
The "hot wort tank" can also be known as the whirlpool tank. It is made of tall cylinder shaped vessels made to clarify the wort. In this tank the "whirl pool" and "gravity" affect forces any more solids to go to the bottom of the tank to be left behind. After this small process the wort is then clarified.
             # 6 Wort Cooler.
After the wort has been clarified it is moved to the "wort cooler" to lower its temperature in order for the yeast to be added. In the wort cooler the hot wort goes through a "plate heat exchange" so that the heat is turned into cold brewing water.
             # 7 Yeast and Fermentation.
When the wort is cooled it is time to add the yeast for the fermentation process to give an aroma and flavor. There are many different types of yeasts used for different flavors, and the yeasts are kept "top secret" because it is what gives the beer its distinctive flavor.
