Thomas Jefferson is widely known throughout the world as a heroic symbol of America. By drafting the Declaration of Independence, he contributed to the structure and foundation of the great nation that is America today. When he wrote out the statement "all men are created equal" on the all-important document, he became when of the most well-known men in American History for his ideas of freedom and equality for all. However this was not the case and beneath the actual document and words on equality and freedom, Jefferson was living his life heavily reliant upon slave labor. In the declaration one can find deliberate loop-holes to allow for the continuation of slavery. Thomas Jefferson shows blatant hypocrisy in one of the most sacred documents in United States history. .
When Jefferson declared that "all men are created equal", he also stated that all men are enabled to have the basic rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But when one feels these basic human rights have not been endowed to them, they should be sought after by the people whom do not share these rights. In the declaration it says that if any form of government becomes destructive, the people hold the right to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government. This means that Jefferson believed if someone is discontented with their life they have the right to react and revolt against the government they feel is doing harm to them. Although there were some African American rebellions, the majority of African American slaves and indentured servants did not voice their complaints to their masters. The declaration is saying that, if African Americans had a serious grudge against slavery, they would publicly voice their opinions in mass. Okay, so if African Americans did not like working in fields all the daylight hours of all the days of the year for little to no pay, then America will change the system.
