King Louis XVI

The Assembly criticized him and refused to think about Calonne's suggestions of a direct land tax, a stamp tax, and taking away some of the privileges of the nobles and clergy. However, no matter how much they tried they couldn't seem to get into money or out of their bankruptcy. .
That was, until Louis finally allowed Jacques Necker back into the position in 1788. In hopes that the estates wouldn't group together and rule against the suggestion, he suggested to Louis that they increase the jobs of the estates, therefore, increasing the money of the government. Louis accepted the suggestion and didn't allow the estates to form groups. However, he took so long in doing this that the third estate formed a group, and in doing this, they decreased the power of the King, hence, thinning absolutism to a simple monarchy. .
Louis was never too fascinated with politics or any thing of that sort he was born into it. King Louis XVI wasn't even fit to handle the French Revolution, however, the revolution had a major impact on his life. .
After the French involvement in the American Revolution, mobs started to form all over France whose primary goal was to put an end to the monarchy. His wife, Marie Antoinette, along with a group of the royal family fled the country. She tried to convince Louis to flee with them. However, he did not take the rising mob of the legislature seriously. He sent a small force to snuff out the rebellious mob, although he did not fear them enough to protect his own life. The mob reached his palace in Versailles and he had no choice but to flee for his life out of France. He and his wife, with their children, fled France dressed as commoners in a horse-drawn carriage. The many horses that pulled the coach brought many to notice them and they were confronted at the French-Austrian border and forced to return to Paris.
When they returned back to Paris they noticed that the monarchy they had became accustomed to was overthrown and their power that was already lessened, was lessened once again.
