Abortion is the termination of a foetus when it is in the womb. Currently, abortion is legal in America, Britain and most of Western Europe, and many people believe that it should remain legal. They believe that a woman should be in control of her body and should have the right to choose if she wants a baby or not. However there are also many people who believe that abortion is wrong and that a woman should not have the right to kill another human being even if it is not yet born.
This is one of the most discussed topics at the moment. There are two main groups in this argument; Pro-Life supporters who believe that the foetus has as much right to life as everyone else. They want abortion to be banned as they believe that killing a foetus is murder. Conversely, Pro-Choice advocates maintain that the woman should have a right to choose if she wants to give birth as it is her body and her life. .
There are many reasons for someone to have an abortion for example the woman could be too young or she might feel that she does not want to take on the responsibility of looking after a child as it grows up and goes through all his or her problems. If she were still at school it would ruin her chance of a good education and possibly of a good career. Also, if she was still at school and did not have a job she might not have enough money to support her and the child both, as a child would need an education when he or she gets older which would cost more money. .
Another argument for abortion is that legalising this operation has eliminated many illegal abortions performed by unskilled so-called doctors under unsanitary conditions. Sometimes when this happens it results in the death of the woman or leaves her been unable to have any more children.
Moreover, if a woman was raped she might not want to be reminded of the terrible incident that has happened in her life. She would not want to carry a rapist's child for nine months so abortion would be her only answer.
