Women

I could not imagine wearing a burqa 24 hours every day. I can only imagine how hot, sweaty, and stinky I would get. To me that would not show the type of woman that I am. Wearing a burqa would take away my freedom of expression. "The Taliban required them to hide their identities as women, to make them feel so ashamed of their sex that they were afraid to show one inch of their bodies. The Taliban did not know the meaning of love: women for them were only a sexual instrument" (Zoya, p.5). I could not believe that. I would only be seen as a sexual instrument. I don't think so!.
The Taliban treated the women of Afghanistan extremely harsh. They had a dress code. They were only allowed outside a certain amount of times. If they went out they had to be accompanied by an older male. They of course couldn't work because they didn't have the capacity to. I think that women have the same possibility as men. Women are just as capable of handling the same job as men. If women broke any of the Taliban "rules" then they would suffer severe beatings and harsh public exposure. " Sixty-nine percent of the women said that they were detained and abused. Seventy-two percent of the women were told that they didn't follow the dress code" (Ama-assn.org, 1998). For any little offense they would be beaten and ridiculed in front of the public. Here in America we do have consequences but not just toward women. .
Through the American Medical Association web site, Women's Health and Human Rights, I was able to read the results of many interviews. " The results were of 160 women, including 80 women currently living in Kabul and 80 women who had recently migrated to Pakistan. The interviews were over a period of three months and in a private setting. Sixty-two Afghan women living in Pakistan cited their own security and that of their families." (Ama-assn.org, 1998). They obviously faced economic hardships. They had to find a place to live and they had to find food for their children.
