The great gatsby

The novel the great Gatsby is set during the 1920's and outlines the style and the way people lived their lives threw out this era of time. The author F. Scott Fitzgerald outlines the unique life style lived by those men but especially the women living in this time frame.
Women in the 1920's were often considered to be very feminine and have no part in any mens business. This is displayed with the characters of Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker and Myrtle Wilson. Although jordan was considered to be quite masculine in the context of the book she still remains quite feminine even tho she participates in mens activities such as golf. Daisy and Myrtle are the more lady like of the three. Having been brought up in upper class family and expected wealth their whole lives.
Some may think that the view or way that F. Scott Fitzgerald has written about the women in the book may be sexist or written threw a mans view. But history shows that women in the 1920'swere very alike if not the same as the characters in the book. In the location that the book is sett around the majority of all people are higher class citizens and are used to being wealthy. The women there for have been brought up in a world where women do not have to work or really have to worry about any money matters in the slightest. The women because of this seem to have a lot of spare time on their hands with not much to do at all. With all this time on their hands all the women like to attend a lot of social events whether its one of Gatsby's party's or just lazing with one another at Toms house who is Daisy's wife. .
The main character of the book, Gatsby had grown up in a less fortunate family and had found his riches when he became involved in the bonds business. Gatsby had been in love with Daisy as had she been in love with him before he was deported of to war. Although they may have both been in love it would have never been acceptable for Daisy to official become involved with Gatsby as he was not of the wealthy status she was.
