Abortion: Never a choice

Parental recognition of the fetus is a fundamental element in the later child-parent bond (Fletcher 3). Viewing it in the late first or early mid-trimester of pregnancy, before the mother feels movement, may also influence the resolution of any ambivalence toward the pregnancy itself (Fletcher 3). This new finding means that you probably bonded with your mother even before you were born. The same effect would most likely happen with your baby. Does that not mean anything to them? How could a mother abort a child that has already come to recognize her as a loving presence? Due to this discovery, some communities and one state have debated proposed legislation requiring that a picture of a human fetus be shown to a woman who requests an abortion (Fletcher 3). If this kind of bonding occurs it means something, for it would not occur with an inanimate object, only with a living, breathing life form. .
Bonding further occurs with the finding that in any pregnancy, the unborn child stimulates hormones in the mother's body to nurture the baby (American Life League 136). These hormones often cause wide mood swings in the mother who is aghast at the thought of being pregnant (ALL 136). By the time the mother has been swept up in her choice to abort her child, the bonding between the mother and child that often occurs in pregnancy has not yet made the child seem "real" to the mother, and abortion seems to be a quick fix (ALL 136). Once the mother has had time to think about her choice there is an even greater possibility that the baby will become more of a part of her and she may choose not to abort it. How many of you were adopted? If so, your mother made a choice that saved your life. Maybe it was not the time for her to be blessed with a child, but she knew that there was another family out there who wanted you very much. While if she had chosen to abort you, you would not have been a part of anyone's life.
