             The social development of students with autism is also delayed. They tend to have an impaired use of nonverbal behavior, failure to share interests and achievements with others, and a lack of reciprocity. Those with autism are also thought to have a different theory of mind. This may lead to them not understanding social cues and the reactions of others. A child who is seeking affection may attempt to hug a stranger, and when the stranger reacts with fear the child doesn't understand the reaction (Turnbull 285). .
             Students with autism also tend to have repetitive behavior that consists of obsessions, tics, and perseveration. This inability to control their behavior will affect a child's ability to learn in the classroom. Along with repetitious behaviors, students with autism also tend to have problem behaviors, which include self-injurious behavior and aggression towards others. Self-injurious behavior includes head banging, biting, and scratching (Turnbull 286). Aggression towards others may include the same behaviors, but they are aimed at others (Turnbull 287).
             Another characteristic of those with autism is that the need stability and routine in their environment and routine. If there is a change in either of these, the child will experience anxiety. They also need their things to be in the same place all of the time (Turnbull 287).
             Autism is present from birth and students with autism can be at any range of intellectual ability, from being mentally retarded to mentally gifted. There is also a rare condition that those with autism are known to have, which is Savant syndrome. Those with Savant syndrome suffer from autism and have extraordinary abilities in things such as calendar calculating, musical abilities, mathematical skills, and memorizations (Turnbull 288). .
             What is the prevalence?.
             ~ 7.5 children in every 10,000 students have autism.
