Realization of Identity

The true novel Go Ask Alice is an in-depth story of the life of a girl who gets herself deep into the dark world of hard drugs. This book demonstrates the impact that drugs can have on any person if they make the wrong decisions. The identity of the book's author is kept as anonymous and most of the setting is kept unknown, but we can tell that it takes place in an average size town. The book is the diary of the main character, so we find out her most personal thoughts and experiences as they happen to her. .
The main character faces many challenges and has to overcome many obstacles that appear in her path. When she first started experimenting with drugs, she met a friend at a shop nearby in town. I think that she was trying to find herself when she started trying different drugs. Within the next few days they were both off to California to escape their parents. During their stay, they attempted to open a shop with the little money they had. As their stay lengthened, things started to go bad for them and they had to go long periods without food and basic needs. Once they returned to their families, she discovered that she did not want to let herself get drawn into those situations again. She made vows to herself that she would not do drugs again, only to find herself back into them a month later. After a few more bad experiences, she had enough in her diary to convince the reader that she really did not want to be involved with drugs. She was doing well and had gotten herself back on track when someone put LSD in her food without her knowing. Since she had been involved with a lot of bad people, they came back to haunt her even when she was trying to clear herself up. She had a very bad trip and ended up being sent to a mental institution. Her stay at the institution made her decide who she really is and what she wants to do in life. She saw many people that had far worse cases than her, and she felt bad because some could not be helped even though she wanted to help them.
