Fluctuation in tones

In all three poems, the woman who is being seduced refuses to make love to him, whether she is scared or she is just shy. In "The Apparition" written by John Donne, talks about a man who tries to seduce his lady by trying to scare her first so she is so terrified that she has no choice except to sleep with him. He wants to terrorize her so bad that he is willing to make her believe that he is the only one for her. Donne writes, "When by thy scorn, O murderess, I am dead, and that thou thinkst thee free." This really meant, back in the days, that if she does not make love to him, it is like she is murdering him, stabbing him to death by refusing him. Moreover, he tells her that when he does die one day, he is going to come back as a ghost and frighten her in her sleep. Donne states, "And thee, feigned vestal, in worse arms shall see; then thy sick taper will begin to wink, and he, whose thou art then, being tired before, will, if thou stir, or pinch to wake him, think thou call'st for more, and in false sleep will from thee shrink." He tells her that if you have another lover, he is going to be the worst lover you have had in your life, and once you need more love from him, he is going to turn around, pretend to be asleep just so he would not have to make love to you. That I"m the best choice and no one is better compared to me. "I had rather thou shouldst painfully repent, than by my threatening rest still innocent." At the end he tells her that it is better if she just sleeps with him so that he would not have to scare her so much. This poem is just pure emotion. In "The Flea," also written by John Donne, this one is much better in such way that he does not scare her just to get her into bed. They are both sitting and discussing the possibility of sleeping together. They are both talking about sleeping together but the lady is too shy about it, she is blushing at the subject.
