According to Indian mythology, teachers are placed next to parents. Though the prime concern of a teacher is to teach, he/she should not just stick to teaching. The basic idea behind teaching is to teach people what they need to know. So, teachers must imbibe necessary morals and inculcate good behavior in their students. Teachers should try their level best to make their students perfect in not only in terms of education but also in terms of moral and humanitarian values. Just education can be acquired by any means or just learning from books makes it possible, if once the foundation is laid. But there are some values and implicit relations that we can acquire only through our teachers. So, Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.

A teacher should keep in mind that the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited. So, identifying the talents of students individually and guiding them in the right direction is far more important. A teacher should give moral support for every student, and must try to bring out the innate talents in him or her. One more important quality a teacher must posses is impartiality. A teacher must treat all students equally lest the students who are not cared for properly may get depressed and may not perform well academically. .
A teacher should guide without dictating and participate without dominating. A teacher should not show superiority but should be amiable with students so that they can feel free to discuss their problems if any.
