We all live in a world that is inhabited by millions of people. Within our world, there exist thousands of human cultures and hundreds of ethnicities. Each individual person that lives on earth helps to contribute to the way that the world functions. If we all live in a world that contains millions of similar people, how can we tell each other apart from among the masses? Regardless of how similar in appearance or likeness in the way that we think, we all have our own personal identity that sets us apart from other people.
From my prospective, I think that an identity is formed by the way that people perceive us; therefore a sense of identity is developed through the thoughts, beliefs, and choices that we make as individuals through life. .
An identity can be assigned to someone by the way that they are perceived by society. Throughout history, people have always been given a sense of identity by the way that peers label them due to their physical appearance or the way that they live their lifestyle. For example, the practice of racism has been around for thousands of years. If an individual of lighter color were to encounter a person of darker color, the individual of darker color would automatically be determined as inferior in all ways. Although labeling and belligerence is a horrible form of identifying strangers, labeling plays a major role in the ways that people are perceived and identified today. In our human culture, we tend to give individuals an identity by labeling them because we either do not understand why they look a certain way or think differently. Whether it is in their thoughts or opinions, people do not always agree with one another on specific points of views. Because of this.
